How Online Math Tutoring Works

Online Math Tutoring or In-Person Math Tutoring

What are the differences between online math tutoring and in-person math tutoring? Not much. Both tutoring styles can be effectively used by a well-trained professional. A benefit of knowing an online math tutor is always having a math tutor near you. This advantage of online tutoring over in-person tutoring gives you the flexibility of helping at a moment’s notice. An online math tutor is an excellent option for those with an active lifestyle. It is also an excellent option for those who need last-minute help with understanding homework or preparing for an upcoming exam.

The Virtual Math Classroom

Online math lessons use an interactive lesson board that both the tutor and the student can use during the session. These sessions will take place using Zoom (www.Zoom.com) or at BitPaper (www.BitPaper.io). If these websites are inaccessible, it is recommended that the tutor and the student use an alternative interactive lesson space. One such possibility in which both parties can access a common lesson board is to use Microsoft Office OneNote. This software can benefit those who wish to save their lessons for future reference.

To access the digital classroom, you must use a desktop, laptop, or tablet. The lesson space cannot be accessed with a smartphone. Communication between the tutor and the student takes place inside the virtual classroom by using a video-conference service. To use this service, you and the tutor must have an operational webcam and microphone. During the session, you and the tutor will also be able to use an interactive whiteboard and upload documents that you and the tutor can view. To facilitate a more natural tutoring session, the tutor and the student may wish to purchase (at their own cost) a digital writing device. One such device that is popular among tutors is the Wacom Tablet.
