Discover the Path to Mathematical Mastery
An Education That Counts
These math courses are designed primarily for those who are either starting their studies in mathematics or need some additional reinforcement in basic mathematical understanding. Students will learn basic computational skills and rudimentary approaches for solving typical problems.
After mastering the content of introductory math courses students can continue their mathematical education at the intermediate level. This content level builds upon the foundations established at the Introductory level. The concepts learned in these courses established a mathematical framework to help prepare you for the more advanced courses. Students will deepen their critical thinking skills by learning analytical techniques for solving equations from algebraic and geometric perspectives. Students who successfully complete these courses will have a more robust understanding of mathematical concepts at this content level. These courses are designed to prepare students for further studies in mathematics. Students who successfully master this content level can pursue more advanced mathematical courses.
Those who successfully complete the foundational mathematical courses can continue their studies. Although courses at the Intermediate level are designed primarily to prepare students pursuing studies in traditional STEM courses, students may need a specialized Intermediate course such as business calculus or calculus for the life sciences. These courses are available upon request. Please contact customer services for more information.
Those enrolled in these courses will begin to interact more with the mathematical world by developing a deeper understanding of the concepts that are taught. Students will begin to develop a deeper appreciation of the complexities of this field of study. Less emphasis is placed on rote memorization (as found at the lower levels). Students who enroll in the calculus sequences will begin to transition away from a rote understanding of mathematics and learn not just how to do calculations but being to understand why certain calculations are necessary.
Upon mastering the content found within the calculus sequence, students enrolled in Advanced courses will learn the skills needed to communicate mathematical ideas. Students will learn how to read and write mathematically. These courses emphasize the skillset of rational and logical thinking. Students who are performing at this level will learn how to develop proofs and be able to communicate them to others.
Students who have mastered the content found at the previous level of mathematical understanding may advance to more challenging courses. Students who perform at this level of mathematical understanding will be able to synthesize knowledge spanning all previous math courses. Students will also be able to communicate with others with a mathematical understanding. Students are expected to have a mathematical maturity beyond a computational understanding at this mastery level. These courses are designed to help foster a deeper appreciation of mathematics. Students who master this content area will be ready to transition into more advanced mathematics studies.
